Strange as it may seem, one of the rarest inclusions in quartz is quartz itself.
In fact, when two quartz crystals meet, they fuse without leaving any trace of the collision. Or a younger crystal collides with an older one and does not grow.
To embed a quartz crystal inside another quartz crystal we need a first generation of crystals that are covered by a thin film of bituminous liquids that create a thin barrier. A second generation of large quartz crystals grows on top of those of the first generation. These will be visible thanks to the thin bituminous film that creates a reflective surface.
These inclusions are called positive crystals, to distinguish them from negative crystals that are hollow.
Specimens of this type can be found everywhere, but the best specimens for cutting gems of this type come from the area between Corinto and Curvelo, Minas Gerais, Brazil. They were marketed under the name of Manifestation Quartz.
