Passion Amethyst is a natural quartz variety with a hexagonal center of red hematoid quartz and an outer band of yellow fibrous goethite inclusions. It first appeared on the market under this commercial name in 2015, but the stone has been known for years. It comes from Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The type specimens are quartz with amethyst and hexagonal phantom of red hematoid quartz composed of tiny iron oxide particles. Above these is a black phantom composed of tiny dendritic pyrite crystals. The exterior is filled with sprays of yellow goethite.
This three-stage evolution represents the alternation of oxidized and reduced chemical conditions.
