Tourmaline is a fascinating gemstone.

Tourmaline is known as the rainbow gemstone because it occurs in all colours of the spectrum and is in fact a group of multiple different mineral varieties.

The composition of Tourmaline is sufficiently complex that mineralogist John Ruskin in 1891 described it as “more like a medieval doctor’s prescription than the making of a respectable mineral.”

A peculiar characteristic is the formation of polychrome crystals, that is with different contrasting colors within the same crystal from which one of a kind gems are cut. These gems are sought after by jewelers to create unique non-repeatable objects, but also by collectors who can accumulate hundreds of gems of the same mineral, all different from each other.

In the Tourmaline group, 44 mineral species are today recognized. Liddicoatite form a solid solution serie with elbaite representing the Ca end member, while elbaite is the Na end member. This serie represents some of the better quality colored tourmalines. Liddicoatite from Madagascar is the only source of gem tourmaline clearly represented by almost pure Liddicoatite.

Known as a protective and energizing stone, it is ideal for jewelers, collectors and those seeking powerful tools for harmony and energy in spiritual therapies.

Features of this piece:

• Guaranteed authenticity: 100% natural tourmaline of guaranteed origin.

• Color and appearance: Banded polychrome Liddicoatite Tourmaline, old time stone from Madagascar. Today they are becoming much rarer to find.
