Quartz with Amphibole. Filiform inclusions of very elongated, very fine, and often curved crystals are quite common in quartz. These crystals can be red, orange, yellow, white, or even blue and can form very beautiful shapes, which is why they are cut into highly prized gems.
The composition of these inclusions is very difficult to determine precisely due to the microscopic size of these crystals, which are also found within quartz. They are normally considered to be a mineral from the amphibole family, and in most cases, they may be actinolite. However, since the exact mineral definition is rarely possible, the generic term “amphibole” is used, which is a good approximation.
In Brazil, there are many varieties of different colors and very good quality, especially from the Curvelo area in Minas Gerais. Similar quartz crystals, also of gem quality, come from Madagascar.
